oh it’s just my imagination
darnit, I know. I’ve been M.I.A. Actually, I’ve been to Berlin and I’m not too tired to write all about it. Please see my flickr for some photos for now while I work on writing out everything I did in Berlin and picking my fav. pics from the trip to go along with them.
To be honest, I was really disappointed with the pics I took in Berlin. I feel like I didn’t really catch all the fun. It’s hard to say … part of me didn’t want to be a tourist and take all these pictures, part of me wanted to just be in the moment and the other part of me wanted all kinds of photos and to take pictures of strangers … I guess my indecision has led to mediocre photos. poo.
i’m hopeful for today

Just another day at work. Cafe food at the University of Bielefeld is an interesting experience. First, everyone goes to this showcase where they place the different meals offered. There is always a salad bar, a vegetarian dish, a soup/stew dish, and two menu dishes. You can pick then line up in the line of the meal you want. Today, I went for the fish. haha.

So, the food comes out of these little conveyor belt things. WEIRDDDD because you have no idea where it comes from. hahaha. A friend (pictured below) says: “from HELLLLL” hahaha. But there is a very percise system here. I’ll use the above photo to illustrate the order in which you get your food. So, if Mr. Stripe-Polo gets his tray first, Mr. Crazy-Pattern is next, followed by Mr. Classic-button-down and you alternate like so. Once, I violated this protocol, thank goodness I’m a foreigner. haha. Please don’t think that all German university cafes are like this. Please! Because as a coworker said in response to my expressed surprise at the conveyor belt on the first day of work: “yep. I really don’t think they have this anywhere else in the whole world.”

This is the Master’s student whose project I’m helping with. Christina, but not spelled that way. She’s ging to London this weekend and has agreed to buy me a pipe and Sherlock Holmes hat, which, btw, was introduced later and not in the original Conan Doyle books. After lunch we sit outside with a coffee and chat and relax before going back to work because our days are so hard (teeheehee). I commented after this photo was taken: “Christina, my head is so round!” She replied: “yess … what can you do?” hahaha. We have a lot of fun together, laughing and singing while we work. good times.
Berlin plans are starting to set and things should be quite exciting! I’m looking forward to a good time, and debating whether or not I should just bring one lens … but but … which one? hahaha. my life is so hard. However, I am starting to learn what settings are best for what conditions on the 50mm. hehe.
Sunday mornings, I listen to a sermon from northpointministries.org. I’m finding this really different because I miss singing? and here it’s hard to just break out in singing randomly, since well I live with 4 others and I can’t just sing when they are sleeping (they sleep in until mad late). Other than that, cheers =]
actually … there’s more.

That jumbled mess of lights behind our lovely model has quickly become a hang out/go to place. Tonight we went for desserts but ended up having drinks (I had a “Frozen Toffee Baileys”. I think they put some whip cream and then some Baileys) and conversations. Without knowing it, it was a quarter to twelve so we headed home.

Here’s a better interpretation of “german beer”. haha. this tasted REALLY good, the one sip I had. Heineken is a no-go in Germany. It’s all about the Beck’s here, and pretty soon I think I’m going to pick up this habit too.

It was a good Canada Day at the end of it. First German bokeh. Merry Canada everybody!
